Product Review: Timber-king 2000 sawmill

The TimberKing 2000 portable sawmill has 38 Hp, electric start, and is fully hydraulic.

Features

This sawmill also comes fully equipped with the following features:

  • Log loading arms

  • Log turner

  • Log stops

  • Log dogs

  • Advanced computer setworks

  • Debarker attachment

The TimberKing 2000 has a log-handling capacity of 36-inches, a slab-cutting capability of 32-inches, and a length-of-log cutting ability of 21-feet. Ten years ago, this sawmill was priced at about $35,000 and today costs around $45,000.

Sawmill Advantages

To some beginner sawyers, this price might sound a bit hefty. But to me, it is worth every penny as it is a very solid machine and very smooth running. I also find the advanced Computer Setworks is simple to use, and most importantly it’s very accurate. One feature I really like about the setworks is that the digital display helps me know where the sawhead is in relationship to the bed of the mill.

I also like the 4-post sawhead for stability and the fact that it’s large enough to handle big logs. In fact, this sawmill allows me to produce upwards of 2,000 plus board feet a day depending on the material I am milling. That being said, it’s also small enough so that the set up and towing is not a hassle.

This portable sawmill is a solid machine and TimberKing has a long history of building strong, durable sawmills. I would recommend this sawmill for beginner sawyers who plan to do a lot of dimensional lumber. Sawyers that are focusing on doing larger logs and wide slabs, may want to consider something not as portable with a wider cut.

Sawmill Disadvantages

This sawmill has definitely met all of my expectations as it has produced thousands of board feet.  One drawback of the TimberKing 2000, however is that the roller guide on the stationary side tends to move or bend out of adjustment.  I think it would be nice if this could be fortified or beefed up.

One improvement I made to the sawmill myself is that I converted the rubber inlay band wheels with solid steel band wheels from Cooks. Doing so helped me cut straighter boards over longer periods of time. This also resulted in less downtime overall changing the rubber belts. Although the mill has a debarker attachment, this particular model has to be manually engaged and disengaged versus other mills that are hydraulically engaged and disengaged.

Sawmill Recommendations

If you are a beginner sawyer, looking for a portable sawmill, I highly recommend this product. Besides making a great sawmill, TimberKing offers exceptional customer service. Every time I call with a question or I need a certain part, they never failed to help out in the same day.

Sawmill Product Information

Other important product information about the TimberKing 2000 Portable Sawmill is that it comes with a 3-year limited warranty and a 5-year limited warranty on the cutting deck. It also comes with a 30-day money back guarantee, no questions asked. Sawyers also like the fact that the TimberKing 2000, along with all of the fabricated parts, are made in the USA. This makes repairing and servicing parts very convenient.
